How to Bet at Live Roulette?

Most live Roulette games will have a similar betting interface to place bets. Essentially, there are three types of bets you can place: inside bets, outside bets, and racetrack bets, with the latter being particularly interesting when you want to bet on certain sections of the wheel.

Inside Bets

Inside bets are bets placed on the table's inner field. The different types of inside bets are:

Straight Up

Straight up bets are bets placed on a single number. This bet pays out 35 to 1, and it is possible to place multiple of these bets per game round.

Split

A Split bet is a bet where you bet on two adjacent numbers, either horizontally or vertically. A split bet pays out 17 to 1 if the ball lands on one of the two numbers covered. Naturally, you can place multiple split bets per game round.

Street

A Street bet is a bet on three numbers, placed by placing a chip on the outline of the most left number of the three numbers. This type of bet pays out 11:1.

Corner

A Corner bet is a bet placed on four squared numbers, placed by placing the chip on the intersection of the numbers. Corner bets pay out 8:1.

Line

Line bets are bets placed on six adjacent numbers simultaneously. If you want to bet on 1 to 6, for instance, you place a chip between the 1 and 4. Line bets pay out 5 to 1.

Outside Bets

Outside bets, contrary to inside bets, are played on the outer field of the numbers 1 to 36. Just like with inside bets, there are five types of outside bets that you can place while playing live game variants.

Column

A Column bet is a betting type where you bet on one of the three vertical rows on the table or layout. Column bets pay out 2:1.

Dozen

Dozen bets are bets placed on 12 numbers in consecutive rows. There are three dozen bets available: 1st 12, 2nd 12, and 3rd 12, all paying 2:1.

High or Low

A bet placed on either the high (19 to 36) or low (1 to 18) numbers. Winning a high or low bet will double your wager.

Odd or Even

Naturally, these types of bets are bets placed on either all odd or even numbers. You double your money when you win odd or even bets.

Red or Black

If you think the ball is going to land on red or black, you can place a chip on the corresponding color to do so. Colored bets pay out 1:1.

The Racetrack

Racetrack bets are more popular with experienced players. However, they are not that complicated, and our experts will outline how these are placed in this section of our Roulette guide.

Essentially, the racetrack is set up in a similar fashion to the Roulette wheel. The order of the numbers is identical, making it easy to bet on any particular section. A section consists of a series of numbers next to each other. There are four types of sections you can bet on:

Tier de Cylindre

The Tiers de Cylindre section covers the numbers 27 to 33 on the wheel. When placing bets on this section, you place a total of six chips divided over twelve numbers through split bets. They are placed on 5-8, 10-11, 13-16, 23-24, 27-30, and 33-36.

Voisins du Zero

The Voisins du Zero section is the biggest racetrack section, covering 17 numbers in total with seven chips. The chips are placed on 0-2-3, 4-7, 12-15, 18-21, 25-26, 28-29, and 32-35.

Zero Game

When playing Zero Game, you place bets on the numbers surrounding the zero. The section compels seven numbers, ranging from 12 to 15. Zero Game bets are placed with four chips on 0-3, 12-15, 28, and 32-35.

Orphelins

The Orphelins section actually consists of two sections of the wheel, one from 1 to 9 and one from 17 to 6. In total, eight numbers are covered by five chips, placed on 3, 6-9, 14-17, 17-20, and 31-34.

Live Roulette Games

There are many types of live games available at different New Zealand online Casinos. Such versions include classical European, French, and American Roulette, but also unique live games developed by the world’s best casino game providers, such as Evolution, Pragmatic Play Live, and Ezugi.

Top titles among these real-human dealer games include Lightning Roulette, Double Ball Roulette, and Immersive Roulette, each of which our casino experts shall outline in this section of our guide.

European Roulette

The European variant is played on a wheel that has only a single 0. There are 37 numbers in total, with 18 being black, 18 being red, and zero being green. The house edge on European live games is 2.70%.

American Roulette

One of the biggest differences between European and American Roulette is the fact that the American wheel has two zeroes, increasing the house edge of the casino to 5.62%. The wheel has 38 numbers in total, with 18 being red, 18 being black, and both the zero and double zero being green.

French Roulette

The French variant that has even better odds for players, namely 1.35%. In the French variant of the world’s most popular casino game, one or both of these special rules apply, which are both in favor of the player:

  • En Prison rule: When the En Prison rule is active, any losing even-money bet remains on the table and is ‘’imprisoned’’ the next round. If the next round is a winning one, the bet is returned to the player.
  • La Partage rule: When the La Partage rule applies, any losing even-money bet is split 50-50 between the player and the casino, causing players to only lose half their bet.

Unique Live Roulette Games

Apart from classical European, French, and American Roulette games, most New Zealand online casinos also feature unique live games, such as Lightning Roulette, Double Ball Roulette, and Immersive Roulette.

We will be discussing the most popular games in the section below.

Lightning Roulette

By far one of the most popular games is Lightning Roulette by Evolution. With this variant, you can win up to 500 times your bet per spin instead of the usual 36 times. In the game, the live dealer starts each round by randomly selecting up to 5 Lightning Numbers.

These Lightning Numbers will come with increased payout multipliers, ranging anywhere from 50x to 500x. Note that the Return to Player (RTP) of this game variant is 97.10% instead of the usual 97.30% because straight up bets on non-Lightning Numbers pay out 29:1 instead of the usual 35:1.

Double Ball Roulette

Double Ball Roulette by Evolution is a unique game, which features not one, but two balls. The game was introduced in 2013 and can pay out up to 1,300:1 if one places a straight up bet on a single number, and both balls land on it.

Double Ball Roulette’s standard payouts are reduced significantly to allow for up to 1,300:1 payouts on straight up bets. Regular straight up bets pay out 17:1 in this variant, and Splits, Streets, Corners, and Lines 8:1, 5:1, 3.5:1, and 2:1, respectively.

Immersive Roulette

Immersive Roulette is, just like the name suggests, the most immersive game available at online casinos. In the game, 14 high-definition cameras are spread around the live casino studio so that you can follow all the action on a per-second basis.

The cameras zoom in during play and show you in slow-motion how the ball exactly landed on the winning number. The game can be played from as little as NZ$0.10 per chip at most New Zealand online casinos and features a maximum bet of NZ$10,000 per game round.

Top Live Roulette Game Providers

Although there are dozens of live game providers operating in the online casino industry, there are some that truly stand out because of their time in business, reputation built up among players, and extensive popular live casino game selections.

Below, our experts will highlight each of the best live game providers, including their unique gameplay aspects and most popular live casino games.

Evolution

Evolution is one of the oldest live game providers. It was founded in 2006 and has become the world’s market leader in live casino gaming as of writing this guide. In total, Evolution has eight studios across the globe, from where thousands of dealers and hosts service players daily. You can play Evolution live dealer games practically at every New Zealand online Casino, with a few exceptions.

Evolution Gaming’s most popular live games:

  • XXXtreme Lightning Roulette: Features additional Chain Lightning numbers with random multipliers. Double Strike multipliers can hit both Lightning and Chain Lightning numbers and multiply one’s payout up to 2,000x.
  • Red Door Roulette: This interesting hybrid game combines Lightning Roulette with the provider’s most popular game show, Crazy Time. The result is an exciting live game with a slot that determines 3 to 15 bonus numbers per game round. Added to the mix are 20x multiplied payouts on straight up bets, which can be further increased during the bonus game, similar to Crazy Time.
  • Football Studio Roulette: This Football-oriented game offers live European Roulette, but with added sports banter, making it the ideal game for table game and football fans alike.
  • Auto Roulette: This game, available as standard game or as VIP variant, provides a fast-paced live Roulette alternative for players looking for more action. In Auto Roulette, there is no live dealer present and the game is powered by an automated wheel instead, capable of spinning 60 to 80 times per hour, 24 hours a day. Some New Zealand casinos feature additional variants such as French Auto Roulette and an American counterpart.

Pragmatic Play Live

Pragmatic Play Live is the live casino counterpart of the infamous Pragmatic Play game provider. Known for its fun and vibrant slots and other casino games, the gaming studio recently expanded into a broader live casino game offering, including three live variants:

Pragmatic Play Live’s most popular games:

  • Mega Roulette: This is Pragmatic Play’s version of Lightning Roulette, complete with 50x to 500x Mega Multipliers applied randomly to selected straight up bets every round.
  • PowerUP Roulette: Another form of live multiplier game is PowerUp Roulette, where the game's host randomly selects between three and five PowerUP numbers each game round, adding additional chances to win with multipliers as high as up to 15,525x!
  • Roulette Live: This game by Pragmatic Play’s standard live game, streamed 24/7 from their studio in Bucharest. It is available in French, American, and European variants, as well as in local-language versions. Additionally, players can save their favorite bets so they can place them more quickly during future games.

Ezugi

Ezugi is one of the most famous live game providers, and it provides localized live casino content to specific regions and markets. Apart from offering a live version of the game in many different languages, they feature two unique games:

Ezugi’s most popular games:

  • Diamond Roulette Live: Ezugi’s Diamond Roulette is its standard live game that went live in June 2018. It is streamed from the game provider’s studio in Romania and is available in 20 languages. It follows European Roulette rules and features betting limits ranging from NZ$0.10 to NZ$1,000 per chip.
  • Ultimate Roulette: This is Ezugi’s multiplier game, which features multipliers up to 1,000x. Players can buy multiple multipliers per game, and these multipliers can expand and spread to up to three neighboring numbers. These numbers will also receive the multiplier of the original number. In some cases, the multiplier(s) will even double, allowing you to win up to 2,000 times your bet.
  • EZ Dealer Roulette: This is a unique game variant where a pre-recorded video is used, paired with a Random Number Generator (RNG), that randomly chooses the winning number based on an advanced mathematical algorithm. The game features stunningly beautiful graphics and a modern yet intuitively designed user interface, complete with gameplay statistics.

Other Notable Live Software Providers

Other notable live software providers include Authentic Gaming, CreedRoomz, and Vivo Gaming. Although these game providers are not as big as Evolution or Pragmatic Play, they are upcoming and becoming increasingly more popular among Kiwi casino players.

Notable games from other providers:

  • Authentic XL Roulette Live by Authentic Gaming: Authentic Gaming’s multiplier game with four modes: European, with 35:1 payouts for straight up bets, XL mode with 1 to 5 multipliers per game round, each paying up to a maximum of 500x, with straight up bets paying 29:1, XXL mode with 2 to 8 multipliers per game round, each paying up to 500x, with straight up bets paying 23:1, and XXXL mode, with 3 to 11 multipliers per game round, each with a max payout of 500x. The straight up numbers in this variant pay 17:1.
  • Richie Roulette by CreedRoomz: This variant by CreedRoomz is a combination of a live multiplier game and a game show. It features an interactive mini-game where you need to match 3 identical fruits to unlock powerful multipliers. By matching identical fruit symbols, players receive multipliers of 4x, 20x, and 100x, potentially increasing the maximum payout of the game on straight up bets to an astounding 2,300x.
  • Jackpot Roulette by Vivo Gaming: Just like Evolution’s Lightning variant, Jackpot Roulette by Vivo Gaming is a multiplier game with multipliers between 50x and 500x. Note that the payout for unmultiplied outright bets is set at 29:1 to offset the game’s house edge.
